Counting Calories and Evangelism

If you’ve been reading my blog or following me on Instagram or Tik Tok you probably know that Grace and I are going through a fitness journey. We have been watching our caloric intake and also strength training.  It's been a major change in our life that has impacted us in wonderful ways.  We have lost weight, gained mobility, increased strength, and our quality of life has improved.  Because of that we have been telling our friends about it. We’ve been writing about it. We have been spreading the good news of our lifestyle change!  We talk about it because it works!  Recently a friend of ours told us how she has lost weight.  And she thanked us for being the influence in her life that started the lifestyle change.  She has begun to count calories.  We never told her that she should start doing this because it would be good for her health.  We just talked about it in our daily conversation (because it is a significant part of our life) and lived out the principles of what we talked about. Our results spoke for us.  Because she saw the life change, she decided to try it and when she did, it worked for her.  It is pretty awesome to hear about success in others lives because of how we live.  It really is inspiring and helps to keep us on the “straight and narrow” as well.

Our friend spoke about this during one of our growth group sessions at church.  The lesson was on discipleship and evangelism. It was definitely a good example!  I believe this is how evangelism should be.  First I have to say that we MUST share the gospel.  The world that is breaking apart all around us because of sin and satan can only be redeemed by the power of Jesus and the gospel that represents him.  This gospel is spoken.  It must be preached and heard in order for one to know God and be saved by him.  But after we have said the words then we should let our life do the talking.  We’ve all heard the phrase, “put your money where your mouth is.”  That's exactly what living as the example is.  Let us live out lives that display the grace that God has bestowed upon us.  Let us live out lives that display the love that God has lavished us with.  Let us live out lives that display the humility that God demonstrated when he died for us.  Let us live out lives that showcase all of the attributes that God has granted us with so that when people see us, they see the Father.

Just like our friend became a believer in the calorie deficit by us speaking and living out that in our lives, let us all walk in a life that would present the goodness of God in such a way that it draws others to desire Christ to reign in their lives!

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. 1 Peter 2:12

But the one who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds will be revealed as having been performed in God. John 3:21
