I rebuilt my van this past year and it has been an amazing experience. My good buddy helped me to make it a joy to live in. Everything that I wanted in my last van, I put in this new one. And everything I hated about the last van, I kept out. It has all the gadgets and widgets that I need to make living in the van and hosting in the van simple, easy, and functional. We designed things to make the most out of the space that we have. One of our favorite comments about our van that keeps coming up is how we basically have a kitchen with a bed! Some have said we have a bigger pantry in our van than they do in their house!
When we go to events there are competitions that allow one to place their designed van for the best self-built van. Since we have renovated our van we thought with all the changes and unique ways we have created more space, we might have a chance for best in show. When we were at this latest event we received so many tickets for best built van. We were so excited! Grace and I said to ourselves “We might win it this time!” We had so many vouchers!
At the end of the showcasing, we went up to the staging area for raffles and the best in show prize. The show runner asked about best in show tickets. We were so sure that we had a good chance this year. He called out and asked if anyone had a certain amount of tickets. Grace got up and went towards the stage. The lady she walked beside asked “How many tickets do you have? I have 30.” At that moment Grace just turned around and walked back. Hahaha.
When she came back to where I was sitting she said, “We didn’t hear wrong. They said 30 tickets.” I was stunned. We had 15. The winner ended up with a total of 55. I couldn’t believe it. 55 tickets is crazy! We weren’t even in the ball park of what the others were. They were in another league.
This brought to mind the goodness and power of God. In every way he is altogether greater than me. He’s altogether greater than all things. This is why he is worthy of our worship, adoration, and praise. I have heard many people say worship is “worth”ship. Who else is worthy? Now the question becomes, “Why do we put so much else before him?”
Take a look at your life today. What’s prioritized? Is God the supreme head of all that's going on? Or are other things taking precedence? If so there needs to be a realignment because the one who is far greater should be far above all things in our lives.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” Matthew 10:37
“You shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3
