Community at the PF

ree

Community is a beautiful thing.  It lifts up, supports, and grows us.  It encourages us to do better and guides us when we are out of line.  In a way it is what makes us human. The gym community showed me this.

I was at planet fitness and witnessed a beautiful interaction.  A guy was working on drop sets and a PR.  He began to struggle on some of the reps.  Another guy who he did not know went over to help him.  They introduced themselves and the workout commenced. The guy was shouting “you got this!”  “it’s all you!” “Love what you are doing!”  It was pretty cool.

What’s so special about this interaction is that these guys connected instantly.  They were encouraged and enjoyed each other's company quickly.  The next thing was that the guy who helped was paying attention.  He noticed the struggle of the other and was not afraid to help, even though he didn’t know him.  And finally I think it was great that he encouraged him.  He let him know how awesome he was doing.  We all need that.

This is how the church should be. We should be holding each other accountable when we are falling short of the mark.  When we sin.  In order to do this we must be attentive to our brothers and sisters needs.  We have to be active in their lives. And we have to do this regardless of the fear we have of involving ourselves in other’s situations.  It’s definitely not easy.  But it is for the well being of our neighbor.  Next we need to encourage each other.  Though it's imperative for us to correct when wrong, we need to exhort and push each other to excellence with real and not just flattery compliments.  This bolsters us in confidence to continue in the faith when sometimes we feel “why continue?”

So today, let’s take the awesome event I witnessed at PF and apply it to our lives as Christians.  We are to be examples to the world of why the community of God is so good. And we are to walk with one another to meet the standard of life God has called us all to.

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently Galatians 6:1

encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching Hebrews 10:25

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another John 13:35
