A lesson from Cecil.

Being back in the van has got me rearranging and placing things where they best need to be. I’ve been trying to make the space as comfortable as possible while being practical and functional. And in doing so I came across an old gift that an employee of mine gave me as a christmas gift. It didn’t hit me till now how significant this piece was.
Its a turtle pencil holder which I have named Cecil. I named him after my sister-in-law’s turtle. It’s a good name. What makes Cecil so special is that he is always looking up. I’ve had him in the oddest places too. He’s been in cabinets, benches, bags, boxes and everywhere in between. But he’s always looking up.
I think we all have to learn from Cecil. Not that we should always look up in optimism like the world would say. But this looking up is looking to the one. It’s looking to the God who I know even in the most difficult situations he is in control. There is no situation or circumstance that he is not seeking his benefit and my good. He loves me and I trust him. So like Cecil I will look up. I will look to him. I will look to the joy of my salvation, Yahweh.
Now Cecil is on the counter. Prominent. I have to have a reminder to keep looking up or I’ll quickly forget and try to make it on my own strength. Where are you in your life and are you looking to Jesus? Do you have something to remind you to keep your eyes on him? Because if you do keep your eyes on him, I promise, he will not fail you.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:2
