Whiskey and Reggae

How God Worked!!

God did a work on us at Whiskey and Reggae.  It was a good time fellowshiping with some of the people that we had seen before at previous events.  We got to show some Christian love.  Our neighbor needed a grill and we got to share it with him! He made some Korean BBQ ribs which he shared with us.  They were delicious!  During this time we had a lot of people stop by the van because of the delicious food we were grilling up. It was awesome to see so many people around us. This is one of the goals we have.  It is to see people hanging out around our van.

What most impacted us though was the music from the festival.  It was reggae music.  And as we listened to it we began to hear hints of the faith.  We thought these guys may be christian.  It was so cool, until we began to take a deeper listen.  As we listened more we came to realize the truth that they espoused in their lyrics were mingled with lies.  They talked about the way truth and the life but also father creator and mother creator.  I took a rudimentary look at their religion, rastafarianism, and saw that it was an abrahamic faith, a divergent from christianity.

This got me thinking about the ease of distorting the truth of the gospel.  When we are on the road traveling we meet many people who claim Christ but live in ways that are opposed to his will. It is so easy to not be confrontational (not in an argumentative way but opposing lies) about the truth to “win” people to our cause.  But we cannot do this.  This event has caused us to realize the danger in compromise. Our prayer after this event is that in our ministry we seek to honor God in his purity.  We hope to maintain the truth of the faith in all its aspects even if we “lose” people in the process.  And isn’t that what Jesus did?

On hearing it, many of his disciples said “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”...From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. John 6:60;66
